From live-edge furniture and custom tables to segmented woodturning and handcrafted works, every Tail of the Bank piece is individually designed and built to become part of someone's home and story.
A dining table that becomes the center of family gatherings, a unique turned bowl, or a one-of-a-kind idea that brings wood to life, each project is crafted with carefully selected hardwoods, thoughtful design, and attention to detail.
Woodworking started as a hobby and has grown into a passion for designing and creating one-of-a-kind pieces. I enjoy experimenting with different hardwoods, exploring new techniques, and finding ways to highlight the natural beauty of each board or turning blank.
I don't build in batches. Every project is a journey about the wood and the function of what it will become.Whether I'm working with a live-edge slab, creating segmented turnings, or combining contrasting hardwoods, my focus is always on thoughtful design, careful craftsmanship, and creating something that will last for many years.
My goal isn't to produce large quantities of identical work. It's to create pieces that people enjoy using every day and are proud to have in their homes.
I source my materials exclusively in New England, with most of the wood from a lumber supplier right here in Massacheusetts. Sustainability is important to me and so I also hunt for recycled hardwoods that I can bring back to life.
If you'd like to learn more about a piece or discuss an idea, I'd love to hear from you.
I'm a scientist by day and woodworking began as a hobby—a way to spend time creating with my hands and learning traditional techniques. Over time, it has become a passion for designing and building pieces that combine function, craftsmanship, and the natural beauty of wood. My lathe is my happy place!
The name Tail of the Bank comes from the famous anchorage on the River Clyde near my hometown of Gourock, Scotland. It represents a place that has always felt connected to craftsmanship, history, and home and my family tree were the carpenters who build the ships. Those ideas continue to inspire the way I approach my work today.
Most of the pieces you'll see here were created because I wanted to learn something new, challenge myself, or build something meaningful for family, friends, or my own home. I don't think of woodworking as simply making furniture or decorative objects—it's about creating pieces that become part of everyday life and are enjoyed for years to come.
Although I now live in Massachusetts, my Scottish roots continue to influence both the name of the workshop and my appreciation for craftsmanship, tradition, and making things that are built to endure.
